Oldsmar Council Member Saracki Honored with 2019 Home Rule Hero Award
Oldsmar official recognized 2nd Consecutive Year for advocacy efforts during the 2019 legislative session

Oldsmar Council Member Dan Saracki has been honored with the 2019 Home Rule Hero Award by the Florida League of Cities for the second year in a row. This prestigious award recognizes Saracki’s tireless efforts to protect the Home Rule powers of Florida’s municipalities and advance the League’s legislative agenda during the 2019 legislative session.

“I am truly honored to receive this prestigious award for the second year in a row. Being named a ‘Home Rule Hero’ showcases how important the voice of local government is,” stated Council Member Saracki. “Our strong stance on Home Rule certainly provided the opportunities to shed light on some of the very things our voters may take for granted. Representing the City of Oldsmar on this level is one of my most rewarding achievements.”

Home Rule is the ability for a city to address local problems with local solutions with minimal state interference. Home Rule Hero Award recipients are local government officials, both elected and nonelected, who consistently responded to the League’s request to reach out to members of the legislature and help give a local perspective to an issue.

“Oldsmar thanks Council Member Dan Saracki and is proud of his achievement,” stated Oldsmar Mayor Eric Seidel. “Since 1968, cities in Florida have had the power to govern according to the specific desires of their residents as long as they do not conflict with state or federal laws. This is vital to create and maintain Oldsmar’s specific vibe, character, and values. Continued advocacy is necessary to maintain such ability.“

“The dedication and effort of these local officials during the 2019 legislative session was extraordinary,” said FLC Legislative Director Scott Dudley. “These are some of our biggest advocates for municipal issues, and they’re shining examples of local advocacy in action. On behalf of the League and its legislative team, we’re proud to recognize each and every one of them and thank them for their service.” To learn more about this and other initiatives of the Florida League of Cities, visit floridaleagueofcities.com.
